Appreciating Summer skies outside my local Tesco, Lockdown 2020

It is almost half a decade to the day when lockdown measures came into play ~ March 2020 for the UK.Β Looking through my pictures from those tumultuous two years, there are some definite themes emerging ~ of what my flatmates and I focussed on and valued during this uncertain time, of what we used to occupy our bodies and minds, and the lessons we learned that still help us in all our lives… even when we’re not in the midst of a global pandemic.

But flowers still bloomed…

There is a post on Instagram I found in 2020 that I think of often. It read: β€˜Good food, genuine connection, noticing Nature… They’re not medicine, but they’ll make you feel better’. And this is true.

The most beautiful rose I have ever seen, also Autumn 2021

Moments with friends were precious, as was taking the time to appreciate Mother Nature when we got outside. Home-cooked meals became a necessity in our flat and something to savour for me rather than a chore and I learned how to cook several recipes from scratch that have stayed with me ever since, now known as β€˜the Frab Specials’.

Deep gratitude

But there was something deeper going on for me, a sense of soul awakening, if that doesn’t sound too cliche, going on inside my bones that I actually took the time to nurture. It felt both achingly familiar and habitually unfamiliar at the same time…

A nightly ritual

We slowed down enough to welcome in Spring…

…to notice an early Autumn…

That followed a long, slow Summer…

…and preceded a bitingly crisp Winter…

…a Turning of the Wheel that happened two times over.

Snatched causes of celebration included getting dressed up to go to the supermarket on a random day at New Year…

…having the opportunity to lie outside in the garden mid-week with halloumi fries on the sunniest Spring day I have ever known…

Cloud gazing

…and toasting my best friend on his birthday in a socially distanced Bob Bob Ricard.

Indeed, indulging our taste buds every chance we got felt like an act of rebellion, both at home and when my favourite restaurants reopened.

And I cannot ever forget deep-diving into the spiritual world in such a way that I never came out again, and I am very happy here. I discovered the mentors who have guided me most on my journey, Krystal Aranyani, Annie Tarasova from Dreamy Moons, Olivia Morrissey and Autumn Brianne.

Savouring those moments of good food, Nature, friends, celebrating the small things and tending to the soul. Even during the dark times in our lives, we can make these our goals πŸ’—
